Glory Be To God The Father
- Text:
- Horatius Bonar
- Music:
- Blake Mundell
1. Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit, Great Jehovah three in One.
Singing glory, glory. Glory while eternal ages run.
2. Glory be to Him who loved us, Washed us from each spot and stain.
Glory be to Him who bought us, Made us kings with Him to reign.
Singing glory, glory. Glory to the Lamb who once was slain.
3. Glory to the King of Angels, Glory to the Church’s King.
Glory to the King of nations, Heaven and earth your praises bring.
Singing glory, glory. Glory to the King of Nations bring.
4. Glory blessing praise eternal, Thus the choir of angels sings.
Honor riches power dominion, Thus its praise creation brings.
Singing glory, glory. Glory, glory to the King of Kings

Reflection
Believe it or not, there is a real dearth of modern worship songs that even mention the doctrine of the Trinity, let alone develop it. (My friend Dr. Lester Ruth has written about this.) So I am regularly on the lookout for good Trinitarian hymn texts. I discovered this one a few years ago. When Blake Mundell (a recent Belmont RUF graduate) asked for some texts to work on I was happy to send it along to him. I like the way the tune brings a little world music flavor to a text that speaks of God as the King of the Nations. It is fitting for a Trinitarian hymn of praise such as this to have a huge vision of the work of our Three-In-One God.
Originally this track was in a different key with Jeremy Casella slated to sing it. But Jeremy sounded so good on the scratch vocal for "Until The Daybreak" that I decided to have Jeremy sing that one, and have Katy Bowser sing "Glory Be To God." I think both tunes turned out really well. But that meant we had to completely rebuild the track (except for the drums which Ian Fitchuk had played) in a new key. Enter Jeff Pardo. Jeff got a great sound on the acoustic guitar and then started adding keyboard parts. I love the way Jeff layered several keyboard parts, and the track really came together when I added an electric guitar part, trying to channel my hero Larry Carlton. Katy did a great job bringing a little jazz vocal styling to an Indelible Grace track too. (If you like this, you might also enjoy her Coal Train Railroad projects.) - Kevin Twit
